Should I go to the visitation?

The wife of a local politician died recently, and her visitation is today, with the funeral tomorrow. I have met the politician and his wife on a few occasions, but did not know them well. The reason I thought of going to the visitation was to support the politician's campaign manager and his family. I am very close to that family, and they are very close to the family of the deceased. I do not have the option of attending the funeral because I am in school. Am I too distant an acquaintance for my attendance to be seen as support rather than intrusion?
